Make the Most of Your Spellzone Reports: What They Show and How to Use Them
Spellzone now provides a range of reports designed to give teachers clear insights into student engagement and progress. These tools help schools identify learning patterns, celebrate achievement, and recognise where additional support may be needed.
Teachers are already sharing how useful the new reporting tools have been in their day-to-day practice. One teacher recently told us:
‘I just wanted to say how much I am appreciating all the improvements to the site! It is now much easier to track the students and reward those who are putting the work in.’ – Rachel Morris, The King's School
If you have not yet explored the new reports in your account, here is an overview of what each one shows and how you can use them to inform teaching and track progress over time.
- Daily and Weekly Statistics
The Daily and Weekly Statistics reports provide an overview of activity across your class or school.
You can view:
- Number of student logins per day or week
- Total time spent online per day or week
- Number of points earned per day or week
- Time per active student
- Points per active student
These insights reveal overall levels of engagement and highlight when students are most active on the platform.
- Points Over Time
This graph illustrates how effectively students are using their study time.
Each dot represents a student (hover over each dot for more information):
- The further right the dot, the more time that student has spent on Spellzone
- The higher the dot, the more points they have earned
Students above the dotted line are working efficiently and making strong use of their time, while those below may need additional support or guidance. This visual will allow you to interpret learning patterns quickly and identify where intervention may be beneficial.
- Usage Statistics
The Usage Statistics report provides a broader perspective, showing engagement over the last 7, 30, or 90 days.
It includes:
- Total logins
- Percentage of active students and staff
- Total time spent on Spellzone
- Average time and points per active student
This information will help you monitor participation trends, assess consistency, and recognise regular use.
- Activity Split
The Activity Split section summarises engagement over the past 7, 30, or 90 days. Hover over the different segments of the pie chart to see how student activity is distributed across the platform.
- Spelling Ability Improvement
This report compares each student’s first and most recent Spelling Ability Test results to show measurable progress over time.
You will find:
- Top student improvement – useful for recognising significant achievement
- Average class improvement – a valuable measure of overall progress
- A visual graph – displaying individual development between assessments
This comparison indicates growth in spelling ability and provides clear evidence of long-term learning outcomes.
If no data showing here, consider setting the Spelling Ability Test as a task for your students to obtain a comparative score.
Making Use of the Reports
Together, these reports present a detailed picture of how Spellzone is being used throughout your school. They can be used to:
- Recognise and celebrate sustained effort and improvement
- Identify students who may benefit from additional support
- Share progress data with colleagues or parents
- Monitor development and engagement at individual, class, and whole-school levels
Having these insights readily available ensures you can track progress efficiently and support every learner effectively.
Spellzone reports turn engagement data into meaningful insight. By reviewing daily activity, long-term improvement, and usage trends, you will gain a complete view of how your students are developing their spelling skills.
